Exploring Organizational Poverty: What are the signs of an “Impoverished” Organization?

November 5th, 2007 · No Comments

The Human Side of Change The 2007 Program Year Theme is: The Human Side of Change

There are not many organizations without humans. There are no organizations that change without human input, effort and personal change of the members as well as the change agents themselves. By definition, when we are in a changing organization we must change ourselves. In clinical counseling, it is expected that every licensed person will avail himself or herself of other professionals for feedback, accountability, coaching, and consultation. This is not true of the consulting profession but the need is the same for us when we consult as when we counsel. Here is our next workshop on this topic:

Tuesday November 13, 2007
Dinner Meeting - 5:30 - 8:30 pm
Program Focus: Exploring Organizational Poverty – What are the Signs of an “Impoverished” Organization?

Speakers: Case Study and Discussion

Cost: $15 Member, $20 Non-Member Please RSVP to info@odncincy.org or gibsonjkgibson@aol.com

At the last ODN Event City Cure’s Teaching Team helped us understand what it meant to be impoverished in our society; the factors that contribute to poverty; and the impact that feeling impoverished has on individuals both in and out of the workplace. The presentation had a profound effect on those who attended, but as the discussion progressed we soon recognized that the very factors that contribute to societal poverty also contribute to dysfunction in organizations. Through case study and discussion we will explore the signs of an “impoverished” organization and determine and share strategies to manage them.

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

* Describe the link between social poverty and people feeling impoverished in organizations

* Identify symptoms of organizational impoverishment

* Identify and discuss root causes of organizational impoverishment

* Determine what OD interventions could help eliminate organizational impoverishment

* Develop ideas to minimize organizational impoverishment from taking hold in our companies.

We are meeting at DeVry University in a wonderful classroom. We have discovered Funky’s, a caterer who does a superb job of fixing great food. The meal alone will be worth the visit and the networking and presentation will make you sit up and shout!

Shalom, The ODN Leadership Team

PS — Invite at least two others to join you and impress them with the company you keep.
